Washington County Jail

Look at that wonderful little castle at the end of the street! Although it's not the kind of place where you would have wanted to stay when it was built in 1897 – it was the Washington County Jail.

Remember the covered-up bank building we looked at cattycorner across the Square? This jail building was built in an almost identical Richardsonian Romanesque style, and both are undoubtedly by the same architect, perhaps D.C. Wurtz out of
Fort Smith.
