8 Races You Will Not Want to Miss this Fall

Fayetteville in the Fall is the perfect setting for outdoor enthusiasts and those looking to be active. Along with an abundance of hiking trails, biking opportunities, canoeing, fishing and more, Fayetteville has many races to get you out and moving. Check out our list of races that you won’t want to miss.



1. Hero Half Marathon, Sunday Oct. 9

When and Where: Sunday October 9 at Lake Fayetteville and in the Walton Art Center Parking lot Downtown

What type of race(s): Half Marathon, One Mile competitive and fun run

Race Details: The Hero Half Marathon and 1 Mile is a fundraising race and community event hosted by The Spark Foundation in partnership with Fayetteville Firefighters’ IAFF – Local 2866.  The race is held every year in conjunction with Fire Safety Week! Today is the last day to sign up for this one, but if you miss out, you can hang out in the beer garden at the finish line on Dickson Street and watch the firefighters cross that finish line.

2. Razorback Run, Saturday Oct. 15

When and Where: Saturday, October 15 at The Northwest Arkansas Mall

What type of race(s): 5k, 15k

Race Details:  The races begin at 8:00am at the Northwest Arkansas Mall and finish at Academy Sports and Outdoors. Awards will be given to the best dressed hog, as well as top race finishers.

3. Halloween Monster Dash, Sunday Oct. 23

When and Where: Sunday, October 23, at the intersection of Church and Center Streets in Downtown Fayetteville

What type of race(s): 5k, Fun Run/Walk, Costume Contest, Pet-Friendly

Race Details:  Come enjoy a 5K or Fun Run and along the way pick up lots of candy and treats. There will be a kid's expo with bouncy houses and other inflatables, a carnival and other fun Halloween-themed activities. Costumes are encouraged and even pets are allowed.

4. Fayetteville Half Marathon, Sunday Oct. 29

When and Where: Sunday, October 29, at the John McDonnell Outdoor Track Stadium

What type of race(s): Half Marathon, 5k, 1 mile Fun Run/Walk

Race Details:  The Fayetteville Half Marathon is a race that will visit some of Fayetteville's most unique spots. Friday will feature the vendor retail expo at The Chancellor Hotel just off the downtown square. On Saturday there will be a half-distance marathon, 5K, and a 1 mile fun run/walk.

5. Kessler Trail Run, Nov. 5

When and Where: Saturday, November 5 on the trails surrounding Kessler Mountain

What type of race(s): Kessler Trail Run, a 10K and 20K race

Race Details:  This event is perfect for runners and outdoor enthusiasts looking to enjoy the beauty of the Ozark Mountains, especially as the fall foliage should be in full swing. 

A post-run party will follow at the finish line area at around 10:30 a.m., and will feature live music, food and drinks from local vendors.

6. Veterans Memorial 5k, Nov. 12

When and Where: Saturday, November 12 near the entrance to the Fayetteville National Cemetery

What type of race(s): 5k

Race Details:  Awards will be giving to the top finisher in several different age groups. All proceeds will go to buy land for the expansion of the Fayetteville National Cemetery.

7. Run for the Parks,  Nov. 20

When and Where: Sunday November 20,
All races will utilize the backbone of our trail system (Clear Creek, Scull Creek, Frisco Trails) and finish in Walker Park.
 Long Distance StartLake Fayetteville (8:00am)
 Medium Distance StartGordon Long Park (8:30am) 
 Short Distance StartWilson Park (9:00am)

What type of race(s): 2.5 miles, 4.5 miles, 8.5 miles

Race Details:  Run for the Parks is a chance for runners and walkers to show their support for the City of Fayetteville parks and trails! With several distance options and a festive finish area - we hope this race can find the runner hiding in everyone.

8. Jingle Bell Jog & Reindeer Fun Run, Dec. 3

When and Where: Saturday, December 10, at Lake Fayetteville park

What type of race(s): 5k run/walk

Race Details:  The Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run is a fun way to get out, get moving and raise funds and awareness to cure America’s #1 cause of disability. Wear a holiday-themed costume. Tie jingle bells to your shoelaces. Show off your ugly Christmas sweater. Complete a 5-kilometer run or walk with your team members, spreading smiles, good cheer and a winning spirit.
