Mount Sequoyah Announces New Ownership
Mount Sequoyah Retreat Entrance
Mount Sequoyah Retreat and Conference Center voted last week to turn their operations over to new hands. The Center is now owned and operated by Mount Sequoyah Center, Inc. giving the retreat center an independent status and making it a non-profit entity. This adjustment opens up new opportunity for the event center to serve the region and gives new reach to the faith-based community.
After being owned and operated under the South Central Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church, the church voted to hand over assets after operating the center for 94 years. "This [change] allows the Mountain to further expand its ministry ecumenically to the local faith-based community, and also focus more directly on the broader needs of the Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas communities." stated Dewitt Smith, chair of the board of trustees.
"The formal separation from the SCJ is an exciting new opportunity for Mount Sequoyah and those we host," stated Rev. Jess Schload, CEO of Mount Sequoyah. "The Northwest Arkansas area will now be served with vital new religious and educational programs for adults, families and children as well as having a beautiful site for church retreats, weddings, family events, and more. Our hope is that this special place overlooking the city will continue to be an important resource for the community. We will be seeking partnerships with churches, religious organizations and non-profits to continue to serve this region."
Mount Sequoyah will not be moving and will continue to serve the community from their beautiful location atop the mountain providing the same hospitality under Christian values. Mount Sequoyah provides lodging, retreat space, meeting space and more to the public. This is a great space for church retreat groups, non-profit and religious groups, as well as summer camps and family events. The retreat center has several amenities such as a pool and tennis courts, dining halls and cabins for rent. They are well known for their beautiful vista with a peaceful setting that overlooks the city of Fayetteville. Boasting a large cross just near an opening in the trees, it makes for a great photo opportunity for residents and visitors alike.
