Fayetteville has long been a supporter of equal rights, and this is most prominently evidenced in the annual Northwest Arkansas Pride, which celebrates its 10th year in 2016. The event is the largest pride celebration in the state and has grown to become a multi-day festival including a parade, rally, vendor booths, parties, guest stars an interfaith fellowship gathering and more. The NWA Center for Equality makes all of this possible through the generosity of sponsors and individuals.
In December 2015, the Human Rights Campaign gave Fayetteville the highest rating in Arkansas in its annual Municipal Equality Index, an evaluation examining cities' "laws, policies and services, and rates them on the basis of their inclusivity of LGBT people who live and work there.”
Fayetteville continues to be recognized by national business magazines and quality of life publications for its extremely healthy economy. Northwest Arkansas is bustling, with three of Arkansas’ top five employers—Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods and J.B. Hunt—headquartered less than a half-hour drive from Fayetteville. The result of this economic picture is business success and top-notch living conditions for the town’s current estimated population of 82,830.
